Species

Brown Trout

Introduced to Newfoundland at the end of the 19th Century, the Brown Trout has flourished in the waters in and around St. John's . Three distinct watersheds running through our capital city offer great variety for the angler and certain success for the determined fisherman.

In addition, there exists a sea-run variety displaying a silver sheen and generally larger in size. This sub-species is a favourite among local anglers and has produced fish challenging the existing World Record. Packages are available for both spin casters and fly fisherman.

Brook Trout

Commonly referred to as the Mud Trout, our native Brook Trout displays brilliant colours in incredible natural surroundings. At the end of the day there is no more satisfying meal. The crystal-clean waters of Newfoundland offer a great angling experience to all those who choose to try their skill in the many gullies and ponds that house our native Brook trout.

Rainbow Trout

This feisty character was also introduced to Newfoundland in the early 1900's and has a reputation as being very selective on bait but when coaxed will almost always offer a memorable experience. The Rainbow has displaced various trout species in certain watersheds just outside St. John's and these ponds and rivers are quite accessible and offer great scenery in a quiet setting.

Atlantic Salmon

If your interest lies with the mighty Atlantic Salmon, the king of all freshwater fish than Newfoundland's salmon waters should be your destination. With over 180 licensed rivers, our Province offers the best opportunity for bagging a "leaper" in all of Eastern Canada . We look forward to hearing from you.
